Toby gets a horrible cough!

December 16, 2013
Toby had a horrible attack of Collasping Treacea tonight! He was coughing and honking all over the place! We got him calmed down and massaged his back and chest. He ate some dinner no problem...
I think getting his butt shaved and then a shower and then a run around the yard was too much on the old guy I will be much more careful from now on to not over stimulate him

Update on Toby
After carefully diagnosing our situation. Dr Hann thinks Toby caught something airborne equivilant of the doggy flu Not transfered by human to dog but dog to dog. Joe says he has heard a new dog's bark in the area. We brought home a pharmacy! Dicloxicilline Something-codone for his cough and an anti-inflamitory.

He is ruling out collapsing trecea for now unless it gets worse. We didn't have enough to cover the cost of x-rays today. But if it continues or worsens we will bring Toby back later this week.

So far so good Toby has had only 1 bout of coughing since we got home. I was able to dose him pretty well with Joe's help without getting too much on Joe LOL

Medicating Toby:
First day Joe had Toby on his lap while I pushed the plunger on the suringe and got half of it on Joe's arm
Second day Toby took it with clenched teeth
Third day Toby bites down on the suringe and makes happy gurgling noises while licking it. I had to pry it out of his mouth
Forth day Today Toby sat down in the office on his own wagging his tail. He clamped on the suringe and guzzled it all without being held!
Oh and the stuff is like kids syrup it smells like cherries

No more lost things

Talking with Toby I found out that he really likes it here with us. He likes being able to chat heart to heart with our minds. He thinks it is pretty cool when I get it right. He also said he likes being here "Because he doesn't loose things"..I asked him what things he has lost before? Toby said "um....me....my name...my collar..." Now he won't ever loose those things..awe Toby.

Getting more relaxed

Today
Toby came in the bathroom on his own today
Normally I leave the door open a crack so he can wonder in. Today it was too chilly to do that. So I closed the door but only to the door frame. When I got out there was a little nose poking his way through! I told him he was a good boy!
Yesterday
Just got back from a VERY pleasant day with Toby and hubby!
We went to Jack In The Box that had outside tables and then on to the WoodCrest Bike shop. Toby was on his best behavior and everyone got to say hi

Toby loves his people

Toby update:
I have noticed Toby being much more relaxed these days. I gave him that thought "Wow Toby you really like it here now!" He said "Yes there is no more HORROR and he sent me a picture of a front door wide open with no one coming back" I said in my heart "Yes Toby you are loved here and we will always come back for you"
After his bath/shower yesterday Toby was being real good and holding still for me while I brushed his fur. I did not have his collar on so he was free to move about but he didn't. I told him what a good boy he was out loud. He sent me a thought? I like making you happy." I said back to him "but do you like being brushed?" He said no not really it pulls my hair but I like making you happy. And I really like after my bath I feel a lot better!" I noticed Thursday that he stood still longer if I was more methodical in my brushing going all one side and then all on the other side and then the tail and then the chest If I mixed it up he would get restless. So that is how I brushed him on Saturday and he stood still longer
This morning I got up and went to the bathroom. Toby knows I come back with a cup of coffee and a granola bar that we share. This time Toby followed me into the bathroom. Next thing he likes to do is snuffle for any bit of food on the floor. He did not snuffle. He stood very still in front of me while I was still sitting in the bathroom. Ya'all get the idea...Anyway I reached down and stroked him very lightly down the back. He stood still longer. So I reached up to his chest and scrunched his fur there. He then leaned into me as I worked my fingers up his chin and to his ears. He has never let me pet him that long! I asked him in my heart. "wow thank you for letting me pet you! Why did you let me pet so long this time?" Toby said "You are like a CAT!" I was like what...? "I don't meow or have a tail" Toby said "you have soft paws like a cat. I like that" and then we were ready to go get our granola bar.

We have the house open today. Joe is out on the patio fixing a bicycle. I am here in the office on my computer. I look around and there is no Toby. I find him here in the bedroom fast asleep where he lays down at night next to Joe. Nice and quiet in there today.

Toby's Heart

Today Toby was beside my bed. I only have 2D peripheral vision. So I saw the small shape of a wolf with a huge head. Kinda spooky. Then I asked God "But what does his heart look like?"
I saw a tiny glass bubble with gold glitter surrounding it. Toby's heart is as small as a hummingbird and as fragile as a butterfly.
I have been working with Toby on getting him used to our routine and settling in.
Now I am going to work on getting his spirit/heart stronger :)

Recheck on Toby's Eye

The spot in his eye is pretty much cleared up. Dr said finish drops and all done! No charge again! Joe says If we get another problem we are bringing him back here.
oh ya and there was a HUGE brown Lab in the waiting area that barked and wanted to make friends with Toby. Toby wanted nothing to do with that dog. I asked if we could sit in the Cat area. There were no cats, but Toby was instantly more relaxed

Toby Went to the doctor for a recheck

Toby passed out 2 hours after his appointment with the doctor.
His eye is healing nicely. We will continue the antibiotic drops for 1 more week. The doctor suggested steroids but I didn't think it was necessary. We are schedualed to go back next week.

Toby LOVES Strawberries!

We discovered early on that Toby likes strawberries. I know yogurt is good for all animals so I offered Toby some strawberry yogurt. Toby LOVED it. Joe my husband has a cup of strawberry yogurt every morning. Since we found out Toby likes them so much we tried giving him a bite of strawberry popcicle. He loved that too! Joe just bought a half gallon of strawberry ice cream to share with his buddy. Yummy
I have a red check dress that Toby likes. He gives a happy pant when I come out wearing it. One day I asked him why he liked it so much. He showed me a picture of a red check table cloth in my head! I laughed so hard. I look like a table! So this morning I told him I was going to wear his favorite dress. I asked him which handkerchief to wear with it. I showed him a flowered one and one with hearts and one with strawberries. Toby said in my head "I like strawberries" So I put on the strawberry handkerchief today

Woodcrest Bike Shop

Here is me and Toby at Woodcrest Bike Shop run by Julie and Bob who have their own Chijuajuah in the back. Toby likes it when I go next door to the 7-11 and get a hot dog to share.

Toby Stays Calm

Toby update:
Well it has been 9 months since we adopted the little guy. Skin and bones and shaking. Now he is fat and lazy and pretty happy. We made a little mile stone today. Hubby left to go get lunch while I was taking a shower. Normally Toby would act up and begin pacing and whining as soon as he heard the lock click on the door. Today he whined, looked out the living room window, and then poked his nose in the bathroom! I was so proud of him. I got dressed and he waited a lot more quietly in the office while I got the dining room table ready for lunch. I knew hubby was home though. Toby kicked it up 2 notches when he heard the truck in the driveway. LOL Toby settled down as soon as hubby was inside. Oh and he got a fair share of lunch too

Toby Goes to the Vet

We were going to go to the vet. Then when I did a map look up I saw 2 vet clinics! Messaged a good friend and found I was supposed to go to the other hospital! Whew good thing we averted a horrific experience. Will make an appointment for the Animal Hospital today
Toby is home from the vet. He has a small abscess on his left eye like he may have gotten poked with something. The dr was very thorough and gave Toby a numbing drop and an anitbiotic. The visit was 30$ The meds were 50$ Joe says it is still pretty good that we got out of there for less than 100. They want to see him again in one week. Toby is relaxing next to my chair now. We had bacon jerky and some cheese together when we got home Toby is my bacon buddy.
Toby showed me a new game yesterday!
I was rolling up more bins of yarn some that were left out on the floor. Toby came up and said "I been a good boy I did not mess it up too much!" Then while I was rolling it up, Toby poked his paw at the trailing end and gave a "HA" pant laugh. "I know this game! This is put your paw on the line I win" The doggy version of a cat chasing a string. He had no prey instinct behind it like the energy a cat has when playing. Toby just thinks putting a paw on it means you WIN! Such innocence...

yep he got his meds eye drops today and he is pretty dog tired from yesterday's adventure
he even slept past my coffee and donut in bed time!
TY for asking
Oh and I got this months issue of Dog Fancy today Thanks!
I almost died laughing yesterday. In the wiaiting room there were 3 owner dog look a likes!
There was a peach colored Poodle with a timid attitude. her owner was a short asian dressed in all pink
Then there was a brown and white Papillon and her owner had died redbrown hair and a brown and white flowered t shirt on They both had kidney stones! She was complaining of being diagnosed with kidney stones Now her dog has bladder stones!
and then there was me and Toby and Joe jeans and t shirt me black hair with white around the edges Toby black hair with white around the edges
The doctor was superb! He even took a black light and dye to look in Toby's eye!

I was schedualed to see Dr Bennet and thought that maybe Toby would like Dr Han since he prefers men . Well dr Benmnet was busy So we got to see Dr Han!
Yesterday we were having to buckle down with our finances for the meds. First a I got a 10$ Walmart card that I had cashed in. Next I got an email from my stepmom Toby's "Grandma" that she is going to send a check for the whole bill!
Today Joe wanted to go on a fun outing to the bike store I remember the dr saying we should keep Toby in doors while he is on the eye drops because they dialate the eyes I did not say we shouldn't go
But when Joe called to see if the parts he ordered had come in There was a message saying that the store would be closed until Friday
I hadn't even voiced my concern about taking Toby out!
we are staying home today and tomorrw!
we are praying that the people at the bike store are ok...the message did not sound good She sounded really sad. I will be praying for them...
so God is meeting us at every turn in the road
